  • Reagent purchasing bug

Written by: LoU Staff @ Fri, 22 Jan 2021 07:44:13 UTC

We are aware of the reagent purchasing bug and there is no need for any more reports on this one. We'll advise as soon as it is rectified. In the meantime, you should be able to avoid it by:

    • ensuring you're the only one shopping at the vendor at that moment
    • buying in smaller quantities
    • confirming the quantity you wish to buy is in stock
    • confirming you have enough room in your pack to purchase them

Thank you for your patience, as always.

  • Covetous and Destard are temporarily retired

Written by: LoU Staff @ Tue, 15 Dec 2020 04:19:02 UTC

Due to some major backend changes with the Legends of Aria architecture, we need to temporarily retire the Covetous and Destard dungeons. This will allow us to proceed with the latest LoA upgrade, including moving to a new Unity platform, which in turn lets us push ahead with our plans for the Britannia map.

Rest assured they will return in the near future. If you have characters that are logged out inside Covetous or Destard, those characters will automatically be ejected if you try to log them in. Once the regions are removed entirely, you should be prompted for a town when you try to log them in.

Thanks as always for your patience while we work through these latest challenges. Keep an eye on #news for a notice around the upgrade, at which time you'll need to update your clients as well.

  • Frozen Tundra, Upcoming Fishing/Ice-Fishing/Macro System

Written by: LoU Staff @ Sun, 13 Dec 2020 17:46:20 UTC

Frozen Tundra is now open! Throughout the rest of the month creatures spawned in the Frozen Tundra will have a chance to drop Winter Event collectibles. There will be new monsters, mini-champs and champs to contend with. New armour and weapons to collect as well as dozens of new collectible items.

The region will be open indefinitely and is housing-enabled allowing players to place houses. Soon we will be adding the new snowy house models provided by LOA!

That's not all! In the coming days we will also be adding Fishing Updates, Ice Fishing, and the in-game Macro System! See the full details at: https://legendsofultima.gamepedia.com/Fishing_Update_December_2020

But what about Britannia?! Well don't worry we haven't lost focus on the new map, as the team has been working steadily on that as well. While we don't have anything new to show you today, we may have some further updates coming soon. Keep your eyes peeled, and in the meantime please enjoy the Winter festivities!

  • Correction

Written by: LoU Staff @ Tue, 09 Jun 2020 19:43:59 UTC

We are aware that many players are looking forward to "June 21st" based upon the most recent YouTube video stating that we hoped to have some big news by Spring 2020. This was not intended as an actual deadline, and was never meant to be received as such, as it was more of a hopeful projection. Meanwhile, as many of you are keenly aware, the "human malware" that has impacted the world, has impacted us too, and things have slowed for everyone. We will be avoiding making such projections in the future unless we are absolutely certain of timelines. Apologies for any unintentional confusion, but we appreciate your passion and excitement for the project! Stay safe.

  • Inscription Overhaul Preview

Written by: LoU Staff @ Mon, 20 Jan 2020 06:16:54 UTC

Crafting and the economy are top priorities for us to address with our move to Britannia. Our aim is to recenter the economy around players and the goods they can produce. We want to move closer to our roots in UO and then build on top of that with our own additions. To do this we will be implementing several overhauls to crafting, items, and combat.

The first of these overhauls will be to Inscription. Below is a preview of what to expect from this. None of these items or perks are finalized and are subject to changes.

Return of UO style basic Runebook and Spellbook.

As we return to UO scaled loot tables in Britannia, we intend to revert the recipes for runebooks and spellbooks back to their respective UO requirements. Full spellbooks and runebooks are needed by a large portion of the population at very early stages of game play. This change will allow new players to be able to get these items at a much lower cost than they are now. With this overhaul basic runebooks and basic spellbooks will no longer be a scribes main source of income. Runebooks and full spellbooks also become consumables for their more powerful counterparts, so they will always be in high demand.

    Runebook Crafting Charges

Introduces inscription skill based variable max charges for runebooks.

    Mystic Spellbook

This spellbook performs the same role as the basic spellbook with a few small perks that veteran players will appreciate.

Requires a full spellbook and a new consumable(s) to craft. This item is blessed and provides 1 to 2 small bonuses and perks from a pool of perks.

Potential Perks Include but not limited to:

Chance on spellcast to not consume reagents Small +% bonus to spell success chance Small +% bonus to mediation

    Sacred Runebook

This runebook performs the same role as the basic runebook with a few small perks that veteran players will appreciate. Like the basic runebook, this runebook will have variable max charges. Unlike the basic runebook, the legendary runebook will require you recharge it by purchasing more charges with gold.

Requires a runebook and a new consumable(s) to craft.

Perks Include but not limited to:

Chance +% to success recall Consume X charges to gate travel

    Volatile Spellbook

This spellbook performs the same role as the basic spellbook does but is intended for more advanced players. This spellbook is not blessed and provides small bonus to base spell damage at the expense of increased spell fizzle chance. The cost to produce this spellbook will be less than that of its legendary spellbook peers but not trivial either.

Requires a full spellbook and a new consumable(s) to craft.

Effects Include but not limited to:

Small +% bonus to base spell damage. Increased spell fizzle chance

    New Inscription Books

In an effort to expand the scribe's potential customers, we're adding some new books for players to use. To start with we will be adding the tamer's veterinary manual and the bard's songbook.

    Veterinary Manual

Perks Include but not limited to:

Small +% bonus to veterinary Small +% bonus to animal lore

    Songbook

Perks Include but not limited to: (1-2)

Small +% bonus to provocation Small +% bonus to discordance Small +% bonus to peacemaking Small +% bonus to musicianship

    Loot updates

Each of these high level inscription items will require new consumables for their recipes. Some or all of these will be available at vendors and for adventurers out in the world.

    The Road Ahead

We're excited about these changes and our plans to transform the player economy. Expect to see more details and testing ahead. Again, this is just a preview of our inscription overhaul. Everything in this post is subject to change.

Keep your eyes on the news as we will be sharing more details on inscription and other changes. We will also be talking about our vision for armor, additional Britannia content, and an extensive combat overhaul.

  • Enchanting Update

Written by: LoU Staff @ Mon, 20 Jan 2020 05:49:10 UTC

    Hi Folks,

TLDR? See the last few lines at the end of the article.

Firstly, thank you as always for your patronage and doing what you do to support us and our development efforts. We are a little unique in terms of our game and platform, in that we are in development (early access) while you all put in the time and effort to play. Because of that, we always do what we can to limit the impact to players with the changes we make to get us moving closer to our vision for the game.

This news article is to announce that we are disabling enchanting as we know it. We appreciate that this will strongly affect those that have invested large amounts of time and effort into it. We have thought long and hard about this particular change, and wanted to share some of the reasons on why it needs to be done.

    • The two developers that wrote the system are no longer with us. The complexities of this system mean that it is quite difficult to simply pick up and support/balance ongoing. We've tried multiple times to make this happen, but the fact is it's just too much work. That's why for example you saw Five Star General disabled, but never brought back or otherwise addressed.

    • Some of the enchants are wildly imbalancing, and result in trivializing encounters that we don't want trivialized. This means we need to redesign these encounters to suit the enchants, which simply isn't sustainable. (We should be designing enchants to match encounters, not the other way around.)

    • Moving toward Britannia we are no longer using LoA monsters and PvE balancing will be scaled toward UO. Enchanting in its current form makes this very difficult to accomplish for us.

    • Enchanting in its current state isn't lore friendly and doesn't meet the current team's ongoing vision for the game itself, especially with the impending move to the Britannia map later this year, and the rebasing of everything involved in that process.

    • Enchanting in its current form has a fairly significant performance impact on the game. This was one of the primary reasons for disabling Five Star General, which was an extreme case of performance impact.

    • Our other, more extreme, alternative to this was an item/gold wipe, which we really wanted to avoid. While the economy is definitely not in a great state due to multiple challenges over the last year or so (yes we are well aware!), we want to avoid any sort of wipe wherever possible.

    • We are working very hard on creating new systems which will empower our crafters and player economy, enchanting conflicts with our long term vision for this in its current form.

However, your characters will continue to track what enchants they previously had from 'Enchanting v1.0', and as we move forward and potentially introduce an 'Enchanting v2.0', we will look to make sure that characters that previously put in the time, money and effort are rewarded appropriately. Plans aren't set in stone for this part yet, but we'll share more detail as soon as we can.

Hang on to your enchanting mats too - we will once again look at a way in which we can make these worth something to you.

    TLDR?

    • Enchanting v1.0 is disabled for the short term.
    • Enchanting materials will no longer drop off mobs.
    • Enchanting may return with a v2.0 in the long term. It will be a ground-up redesign/rewrite
    • Keep your mats, we will look to reward you for that investment and will advise on how we will do that later down the track.
    • Your character will continue to track what enchants you had from v1.0, and we will also look to reward you for that investment as well.
    • We have exciting overhauls to the player economy and crafting coming very soon!

Attention Tamers! ZooKeeper will remain active temporarily while we move through this transition.

Thank you once again for your continued participation in our project, and we sincerely hope you'll enjoy everything we have in store in 2020.

It's time!  Britannia (well, Britain and its surrounds) is up on test server!  A few things to be aware of:

This is still an early build, there will be things to fix.  Feel free to report those in #britannia-chat This is currently just Britain town itself, and only West Britain, along with the surrounding areas (Graveyard, farms, northwest forest) The spawning/merchants are placeholders for the most part.  There's a bunch of refinement still to be done Did we mention there will be issues?  There WILL be issues!  Constructive feedback is appreciated. Known issues:

  • Your feedback

Written by: LoU Staff @ Fri, 03 Jan 2020 00:49:31 UTC

    Happy New Year everyone!

This is a quick note to say that we do read each and every bit of feedback we get, whether it's a bug, a suggestion, or a report of player misconduct. However, as we are a team of volunteers that do this for free in our spare time, who all have lives and families, it is simply not possible to respond to all of the reports that we get (and there are many!). Please do remember that this is not a commercial server, and no one is paid to do what we do.

In particular, please be assured that we investigate every report of player misconduct and take them very seriously. When required, we take the appropriate action against those players. While it may not always be visible to you, please be assured we do action each and every one of these.

Lastly, we'd like to remind everyone that if you have concerns with any actions of staff, then the correct escalation path is to email [email protected] - once again, we cannot guarantee a response to any emails sent to this address, however be assured they are read and actioned as required.

Thank you all once again for your support, and we look forward to sharing with you all the new features we have planned for 2020!

  • Rules Reminder - Exploits

Written by: LoU Staff @ Mon, 23 Dec 2019 03:23:35 UTC

We would like to remind all players that, as per the rules you agreed to when first logging into our server, exploiting bugs/glitches etc is not allowed. In some cases, after a thorough investigation, the effect of a particular exploit may be so game breaking that we have no choice but to react with severe consequences to those players involved.

We do not take these decisions lightly, and of course we would prefer to avoid these situations at all costs. If you do encounter a bug that results in being exploitable, please do report via /bug in game and we will do our best to address it ASAP. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Staff Note

Written by: LoU Staff @ Tue, 10 Dec 2019 07:05:25 UTC

We are aware some folks have lost some house contents following the deployment of the 12/8 patch. We sincerely apologize for any losses that this caused. We do not take lost progress lightly and you should know that we're sorry it happened. We do our best to heavily test each change and take measures to prevent losses as best as possible. Occasionally unforseen circumstances do occur, and we normally do our best to recover from them. In this case we were unable to intercept the issue in time to perform a rollback and address it. We thank you for your support and understanding.

The server is now using the latest version of the LOA client. Please make sure to download the latest client to play.

There are a few known issues from this update:

    • Covetous and Destard dungeons are purple/pink in appearance and have been disabled until we have had a chance to resolve
    • Some trees/rocks may report "Too far", if you find that there are more than 'a couple' of these please let us know, but for the most part should be correct
    • Trees that were previously hidden on plots may re-appear, please use a Tree Removal Shovel from an Architect vendor to try and hide it

  • Reminder of Rules

Written by: LoU Staff @ Wed, 13 Nov 2019 10:50:23 UTC

Please be reminded that claiming to be a staff member of LoU or LOA when you are not is considered a violation of our rules under Communication and Player Conduct - Part 6 which is publicly visible at https://legendsofultima.gamepedia.com/Server_Rules -- if someone does not have the Staff role in Discord or does not appear in-game with a Yellow name and Counselor/Guild Master title then they are most likely not a staff member.

Also please be reminded that this is one of the reasons, for security, that we do not provide support via Discord. Please make sure to report suspected rule violations via an in-game page, or an email to [email protected] -- this is the only way to be sure you are speaking to a member of the LOU Team.

  • Server Status Update

Written by: LoU Staff @ Wed, 06 Nov 2019 04:04:24 UTC

Further to our previous announcement, we have found the root cause for the data loss issue and implemented a hotfix. We expect to restore service shortly after this announcement.

Unfortunately, in order to address the issue, we need to perform a rollback. This is necessary in order to ensure data integrity moving forward, as ideally we want to maintain our 'no wipe' stance at all costs. We have considered all other options available to us at this time.

A quick timeline on both the downtime and the rollback are as follows:

-- An issue with data integrity was identified at approx. 10:30pm UTC/5:30pm EST -- LoU was taken offline to further investigate -- In order to address the issue, we have rolled back to approx 10:00am UTC/5:00am EST

We appreciate this is a significant loss of progress. Unfortunately these things can occur when a game is under heavy development such as we are. Investigations into the issue are still ongoing in order to track down and eliminate this type of issue moving forward.

We have enabled a skill gain increase on the server as a method of compensation. This will remain active until we determine that it is no longer necessary. Thank you once again for your patience.

  • Be Prepared: Patch Next Friday, House Lockdown Changes

Written by: LoU Staff @ Fri, 01 Nov 2019 14:53:51 UTC

Next Friday, Nov 8th, at a time to be determined, we will be applying a patch that will prevent players from moving/rotating locked down objects outside the bounds of their plot. At that time, an autofix will be applied detecting any pre-existing objects that are out of the plot bounds and moving them back inside the plot to a valid position. Please note that this may not neatly move objects and you may end up with breaks in fence lines if that occurs. Please take this time to analyze any decorations you may have extending past your plot bounds/lines and please move them back so that they are not overlapping.

Additionally, with the changes to lockdown location validation, we will also be adding the Ban List and Auto-Eject for plots. This will now properly track targets banned from a plot and prevent them from re-entering. A new tab to manage the bans has also been added to the plot menu. When a target is ejected from a plot, they are put near the mailbox, which is why it is important that we no longer have interconnected plots and over-extended decorations.

    https://legendsofultima.gamepedia.com/Patch_10/27/2020

    • An issue causing monsters that have been provoked to continue attacking the bard instead has been resolved, mostly
    • You can now Provoke beings against players or pets although it may be a criminal action
    • You can now directly pacify players and pets with Peacemaking although it may be a criminal action
    • Pacifying a player will simply remove them from war-mode state; pacified pets will be treated similarly to monsters causing them to freeze for a short time
    • You can now perform an Area Peacemaking by activating the skill and targeting yourself to pacify to all nearby enemies (skips targets that would cause a criminal action)
    • Peacemaking and Provocation effects will now break on mobs if the bard dies, goes out of range or becomes hidden (see next line) or unavailable
    • Bards with 75 points or more of Hiding will be able to hide without breaking the effects
    • Monsters that have been influenced by a bard's song will be more inclined to aggro against the bard when the effect(s) break
    • Equippable instruments will no longer default to Equip when double-clicking it in some cases
    • Equippable instruments now act as a weapon using Wrestling skill
    • Instruments context option "Play" replaced with "Use" to play the instrument to practice Musicianship skill
    • Bard/instrument cooldowns will now appear as an icon at the top to help indicate when you can play another song

    Mobile collision/shoving:

    • Walking directly over/through a mob will cause a moment of movement slowness for 'shoving' them out of the way
    • Mobs that have been shoved will play an animation to indicate that they have been shoved, but otherwise are unaffected
    • When walking through an invisible player/pet will alert you to shoving "something invisible"
    • Icon appears at top after you shove someone to indicate movement slowness

Written by: LoU Staff @ Mon, 19 Oct 2020 18:20:36 UTC

    • Nightsight has been optimized and should provide the brightest daylight while using it, and it should persist through logouts and region transfers
    • Nightsight will now end and prevent stormy weather while under the effect

  • Performance Modifications

Written by: LoU Staff @ Sat, 12 Oct 2019 09:18:10 UTC

As part of our attempts to improve performance, we are temporarily altering the behaviour of overland mob artificial intelligence. The result of this is that you may see mobs teleport themselves back to their spawn points if they are pulled too far away from them.

We appreciate this may cause some disruption, however this move is vital to understanding next steps in our attempts to alleviate the lag and performance issues that we are occasionally experiencing. Please do provide feedback as we evaluate this change, and also keep in mind that this change is not necessarily permanent.

  • Enchanting materials

Written by: LoU Staff @ Fri, 11 Oct 2019 02:02:23 UTC

Several changes have been made to enchanting material drop rates:

    • They will no longer drop in the sewers
    • On normal overland or dungeon mobs, the drop rate has been reduced slightly
    • In treasure chests and champ spawns, mini bosses etc (higher end content) the drop rate remains the same

This is part of a move to address an overall economy issue, which will continue as we move towards the new map. If you notice anything that doesn't match the highlighted criteria above, please do let us know.

It has been brought to our attention that people are selling Pet Deeds with pets that have 200/200/200 stats. Please know that this is an exploit people have been abusing by casting Bless onto their pets and then deeding the pet. Do not buy these deeds as the pets will be auto-corrected soon back to the standard stats. Pet caching has also been disabled due to this.

  • Anti-lag measures

Written by: LoU Staff @ Thu, 15 Aug 2019 22:47:23 UTC

After the next server reboot, we will be running some detailed information capture procedures in order to try and pinpoint the cause of the ‘lag over time’ and other current performance issues.

These procedures will be very intensive on in-game experience and may cause you to lag out or even kick you off the server entirely. We ask for your patience, as it is critical this information is gathered while the server is ‘under load’ with a player population active. We will give you advance warning when this is going to occur.

The first of these will be run at 4am UTC/12am EST tomorrow (approx. 5 hours from the writing of this message.)

    • Young players can still have beneficial spells cast on them by other players
    • Young players cannot heal other players unless they are also young. This includes both magery and bandages
    • We now have a mechanic to limit young player access to events as required
    • Note that if you attempt to attack a young player, while you won't be able to land any damage, you WILL be flagged criminal. Naughty you!

Phase 2 is still to come. It will include the promised quest system, once we are able to move to the latest CS build after steam release. It will also include a dedicated tutorial area where young players will start. More on that soon!

    • On an unrelated note, we are now serving custom assets (like Covetous and the other dungeons) on a global CDN. What this means for you is downloads of new files as they are updated should be much faster.

  • Faction Fixes

Written by: Nek @ Wed, 05 Jun 2019 01:35:26 UTC

    • Faction Tower in Upper Plains should now be on a correct 2 hour respawn. The buff should now display the 25% bonus properly, pending restart for the buff display.

    • New Faction Stones in towns!!

First test stone is in Moonglow close to the inn.

If two players of the same faction, and only of that single faction, stand in a circle of roughly a bow's range for 3 minutes the stone will trigger. The faction that triggered it must then keep at least 2 players inside the circle for 10 minutes, regardless of how many other faction are present, unlike for the trigger part where only 2+ of a single faction need to hold for 3 minutes. After the 10 minutes the winning faction players in a large radius (4x bow range) around the stone will get a 14% glory buff for 2 hours. This does not stack with the buff from the towers.

    To recap:

1- 2+ of a faction and ONLY that faction in stone range for 3+ minutes = Stone Triggered, system wide message to call other factions.

2- 2+ of the faction that triggered the stone in stone range for 10+ minutes = Stone Claimed

3- Buff given and faction vendor spawned for 2 hours

NOTE: for now the faction leader spawns in it's place. We will add vendors that sell faction gear for twice the favor compared to crafting them and will add new means of gaining favor.

Please leave us feedback on the new Faction Stone mechanic so we can add new ones to most towns.

Written by: LoU Staff @ 1/17/2020 2:14:46 AM

Assets like individual fence pieces may on occasion not 'draw in' properly on the client. While you can seemingly run through them when this happens, you'll notice very jerky walking behaviour until you return to the point of entry. Note that in these scenarios, the server knows you have not 'passed' the object and still considers you to be on the other side. You will not be able to interact with anything until you return to the point of entry and the 'jerky' behaviour disappears.

Any aggressive actions will call down the wrath of the guards and your corpse will be freely lootable by anyone.

Gardening: Certain areas in the world seem to prevent the Gardening Scythe effect from clearing grass. First try Closing the EXE, and relog to use your Scythe again, and if that doesn't fix it then it's the actual CS terrain that's preventing the Gardening Scythe from working it's magic. If all else fails, I would suggest moving your plot and trying your Gardening Scythe first on your new plot (before building) in order to make sure that your new plot location it's ideal for Mowing Grass. Finally, you could always move to the desert, where there is no grass!
